‘Tis the Season

The holidays are here, whether we’re ready or not.  Christmas time is such a happy time.  Even the frigid cold weather can’t stop the excitement for decorating sugar cookies, wrapping presents, and watching Christmas Vacation with your family.  College students are especially fond of Christmas because Christmas=break=no school=done with finals.  Before the true “Christmas season” can take overcome our minds… we, college students, are at the peak of “finals season”.  Fighting for a seat in the library because it is way too overcrowded, going to bed at frighteningly unreasonable hours (or not even going to bed at all?), having a mental breakdown over the smallest problem.. simply because it’s ultimately caused by built-up stress from everything else going on.  All issues that are alive and well.

Aside from the chaos of finals, the best part about Christmas is contrarily not getting the presents, but giving them.  However, if you’re anything like me, you understand the struggle of coming to a dead end when thinking of gifts to give to your friends or family.  All year, I’ll point out quirks or characteristics about those close to me and make a mental note to not forget it when this gift season comes around.  And what do I do?  I forget. Every. Time.  But, there’s nothing better than getting the perfect gift for someone. The kind of gift that even you are giddy about. That feeling of accomplishment that your present is going to make this the peak of their life?  Alright, a bit too extreme, but you still get the idea.

If any of you are at this common dead end that I find myself in almost 99% of the time, here are some of my recommendations for a gift that your friends or family will love without putting a dent in your wallet.

For the fitness-fanatic friend: This can be tough… especially when fitness may not be your #1 go-to.  However, thinking athletic doesn’t always mean expensive running shoes and elaborate workout clothing.  Here are some options for that friend that can’t go a day without a trip to the gym:

Balega Blister Resist No Show Socks– $13.00 These socks are awesome, so comfortable and soft, and perfect for those prone to blisters and hurting feet.

CamelBak Double Insulated Water Bottle– $20.00 It doesn’t sweat. Goodbye water rings on everything!  It’s great to use when running, cycling, or doing any physical exercise.

Lululemon Criss Cross Headband– $12.00

For the always organized, studious girl in the group: That girl that loves to always document what’s going on, voluntarily handwrites their notes during class rather than typing them, and appreciates the absolute “perfect pen”, here’s some awesome gifts they’ll enjoy:

Paper Source Paint Chip Calendar– $24.95 Paper Source had some great options, but I loved the unique look this specific wall calendar had.  It’s perfect to hang up in your room since it’s cute enough to look like decor!

Rifle Paper Greeting Cards– $3-$6 Rifle Paper’s greeting cards are my absolute favorite.  Get an assortment for your friend to send to those in her life. There’s nothing worse than wanting to write a card, but not having a card to write in. This way, she’ll have her own personal stash to choose from.

One Line a Day: A Five Year Memory Book– $16.95 This is so cool. I recently purchased this, and it’s so easy to quickly jot down absolutely anything that happened that day… whether it be good or bad.  It’s awesome to look back on and remember what you did that day, how you felt, or what was going on in your life at that time!

For the woman you wish you could buy the world for: mom. This is tough to decide what to get her, simply because you can never truly repay her for all the years filled with your stubborn bad moods, driving you to your friends’ houses without her complaint, and always providing you with home-cooked meals, no matter what. These ideas may not be something that can own up to all she’s given you, but she will definitely appreciate them:

Nail Salon Gift Card- Treat your mom to a manicure, massage, anything she’d enjoy.  Tag along with her and make an afternoon out of it.  She most likely appreciates the time you spend with her more than the gift itself!

Birthstone Bar Necklace– $38.49+ I love this necklace because it’s subtle, beautiful, and still has her whole family on one piece of jewelry. This product is on Etsy and can be customized to any birthstone and number of people in your family!

I hope y’all enjoyed this post!  It was so cool putting it together and seeing how many options there are when you start searching around. The best thing about this is (@collegestudents) everything is under $30 (minus the bar necklace).  That’s awesome for those of us ballin’ on a budget.  Don’t forget to take advantage of the small businesses in your town- they have creative options that anyone would love (check back to my post previous talking about the impact small businesses have on the community).

Happy holidays everyone!
